The IRS announced it will be changing the deadline for filing federal tax returns, pushing it back to May 17. While many states have followed suit, there are a number of states that are keeping the original date or changing it to different deadlines.

April 15th, 2021
- Alabama: Unlike the IRS, Alabama grants all taxpayers an automatic six-month extension to file penalty-free beyond the April 15, 2021 due date.
- Arizona: The deadline is still April 15 for state taxes, but the Arizona Department of Revenue says it will consider an extension.
- Kansas: The deadline for state taxes is April 15, although it looks like an extension of that deadline is imminent, presumably for May 17.
- Ohio: The deadline is still April 15, although it might be extended.
April 20th, 2021
- Hawaii: Residents still need to file their N-11 Hawaii state form by April 20, but you can also file for a six month extension.
April 30th, 2021
- Iowa: The deadline for state taxes is April 30, although it looks like it will be extended soon.
May 17th, 2021
- Arkansas: Arkansas has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- California: California has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Colorado: Colorado has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Connecticut: Connecticut has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Delaware: Delaware has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Georgia: Georgia has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Idaho: Idaho has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Illinois: Illinois has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Indiana: The deadline is still April 15.
- Kentucky: Kentucky has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Maine: Maine has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Massachusetts: Massachusetts has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Michigan: Michigan has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Minnesota: Minnesota has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Mississippi: Mississippi has extended its state tax deadline to May 17
- Missouri: Missouri has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Montana: Montana has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- New Mexico: New Mexico has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- New Jersey: New Jersey has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- New York: New York has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- North Carolina: North Carolina has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- North Dakota: North Dakota has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Oregon: Oregon has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Rhode Island: Rhode Island has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- South Carolina: South Carolina has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Utah: Utah has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Vermont: Vermont has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Virginia: Virginia has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- West Virginia: West Virginia has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
- Wisconsin: Wisconsin has extended its state tax deadline to May 17.
June 15th, 2021
- Louisiana: The deadline for state taxes has been extended to June 15.
- Oklahoma: The deadline for state taxes has been extended to June 15.
July 15th, 2021
- Maryland: The deadline for state taxes has been extended to July 15.
- Nebraska: Nebraska has extended its state tax deadline to July 15.
No Income Tax
- Alaska: Alaska does not have an income tax.
- Florida: Florida does not have a state income tax.
- Florida’s Homestead Exemption must be filed, for 2022, anytime between April 2, 2021 through March 2, 2022
- Nevada: Nevada does not have a state income tax.
- New Hampshire: New Hampshire does not have a state income tax.
- South Dakota: South Dakota does not have a state income tax.
- Tennessee: Tennessee does not have a state income tax.
- Texas: Texas does not have a state income tax.
- Washington: Washington does not have a state income tax.
- Wyoming: Wyoming does not have a state income tax.
